How it works
Book
Pick a date in the ReSmart app or on the web. Pay per pickup, or use your council's subsidised pickups where they apply.
Bag it
Polystyrene packaging, like the blocks that protect a new TV or appliance, goes in your pickup with your other items. Make sure it’s clean and dry.
Leave it out
Put your items at your door on pickup day. Our driver collects them with anything else you’re recycling, and you can see where it all ends up.
What happens to your polystyrene
We work alongside our approved recycling partners to find the best solution for every item: reusing first, then recycling, rather than landfill.
Polystyrene recycling in Sydney: FAQs
Where can I recycle polystyrene in Sydney?
From your own doorstep. ReSmart picks up polystyrene across 30 Sydney councils, listed above, together with your soft plastics, e-waste and textiles and other hard-to-recycle items. There is no drop-off point to drive to: book a pickup and leave your polystyrene out. Check your address on where we collect.
How much does a ReSmart pickup cost?
ReSmart pickups start from $19. If your council subsidises ReSmart, pickups can be free or discounted. You see your exact price when you book.
What polystyrene do you take?
Polystyrene packaging blocks from a new TV, appliance or computer, and polystyrene boxes. Like everything we collect, it needs to be clean and dry. See the full list.
Which Sydney councils subsidise ReSmart pickups?
Sutherland Shire, Ku-ring-gai, Randwick, North Sydney, Ryde, Camden, Mosman, Waverley, Burwood and Hunters Hill partner with ReSmart so residents get council-subsidised pickups; the details and conditions are on where we collect.
What else can go in the same pickup in Sydney?
We collect everything, as long as it’s not wet, organic or dangerous. Soft plastics, textiles, e-waste, cardboard, polystyrene, batteries, light bulbs and the other misfit items all go in one booking, from one doorstep, wherever we pick up in Australia. See the full list of what we pick up.
What happens to polystyrene in Sydney after pickup?
It goes to our approved recycling partners to be recycled, rather than taking up space in landfill. More about misfit items.
Can businesses in Sydney get polystyrene picked up?
Yes. Offices and cafes use the Office Pack, and businesses with larger volumes use a Commercial Pack with a packaging stream for soft plastics, cardboard and polystyrene, no matter the size, with a dashboard that reports what was collected.
