Bags and weighing
Use any shopping bag (about 30L, roughly 40x40x20cm). The smaller Pickup sizes are counted in shopping bags. Your driver sorts your items on the spot and leaves reusable bags at your door. Packing tips are on how to prepare your Pickup.
How much each Pickup size holds:
- Mini: one shopping bag or a 30L box
- Regular: up to two shopping bags or a 60L box
- Medium: up to four shopping bags or a 120L box
- Large: up to 240L, a large kerbside bin
- X-large: up to 660L
- Double-XL: up to 1100L
- Maxi Lite: up to 2500L, half a van load
- Maxi: a full van load
Why and how do you weigh my bags?
At every Pickup your driver puts your bags on the scales and logs the weight and volume collected, split by type: soft plastics, clothing and textiles, e-waste and misfits. The total weight is measured; the split by type is the driver's estimate.
We weigh for three reasons:
- To track what we keep out of landfill, and which items people recycle most, so we know what to add next.
- To give partner councils a picture of their community's recycling. If your council works with us, we report the weights to it every month.
- To show you your impact. Your totals are in your account: see what the numbers mean.

Use the sizes above as a guide. Not sure? Add a photo of your items when you book, and the booking suggests the right size.
My Impact Bag was taken or I need another one: how do I get one?
If your Impact Bag was taken, email hello@resmart.co with your Pickup date and we'll arrange a replacement. Want an extra bag? Buy The Impact Bag in our store for $20.
